Continuing my Eὐχαριστέω - Multitudes on monday

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes. Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits.

Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.

Rätt och Slätt

Five minute friday - RELEVANT

I just started a course in “religious education” or, rather, pedagogy in religion, again, as a student. Enjoying wise, enthusiastic and responsive teachers we revel in talking about the ways to create rooms in life where we can talk about the wisdom, faith and believes we carry within. To quote Norma Everist: “to create safe places for us to be different together”.

We are twelve students burning to be the best religious educators we can, whether for ourselves or many (although I think, and hope, many will benefit either way).

And what remains with me from our first few days together? Many, many, impressions swirl around in my, oh, so tired head, but one thing shines through clearly, again, always making itself heard, through life and Bible; the need to listen.

We need to listen, where listening isn’t thinking about what we will respond to what the others are saying, and isn’t just the polite half listening where we hear what we want to hear. We need to listen in the way that the one talking slowly reaches her/his core of the matter, and so that he/she knows that life isn’t only about being a lonely individual, but an individual in a communion of humans making life together.

We need to listen in the way that we hear what is being said!

This is what is relevant!

Five minute friday - Beyond

Once I know what the problem is, I can do something about it, even if it is to just let go... or not.

Once I’ve gone straight through the desert of despair I can see that I’ve come out the other side just a little bit stronger.

Once I’ve realized that crying is part of letting go I can feel the promise of grief releasing its grip.

Once loneliness looks me in the eye and tells me I can do something about it, I can face myself.

Once love has touched my heart I cannot live without it… forever knowing what my souls nourishment is.

Once I know I am what I am, no less, can I stretch my imagined limits.

Once…

“Once we accept our limits, we can go beyond them”

rann droppvis vatten som den dagg en gryning gråter;

Kristallklar morgonluft sågs gnistra underbart;
ej minsta prassel i ett träd, ej minsta knäppar;
men alla gröna blad begynte glänsa klart
och Ordet skälvde tyst på deras öppna läppar.

Eh ...

Speech

Delivered by the barber (mistaken for the dictator)

 "The way of life can be free and beautiful, but we have lost the way."

"You, the people, have the power to make this life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power."

Film, made in 1940, ... and still relevant? What are we doing?

Curious?

A blessing indeed!

My favorite kind of flowers … from a friend… in October!
Grace!

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Five minute friday - CATCH

I went in to read this weeks ”Five Minute Friday” at The Gypsy Mama, and found that the “challenge” is CATCH. “Oh”, I thought,” I have to think some on this one.” So, as I do when I need some good ideas, I started going through my list of bloggers, the interesting, many times unknown to me, bloggers I follow because of their thoughtful and, sometimes, quirky posts. And at the first stop I found this:

What more can I say but: Please, be the one that looks beyond surface. That dares to look in the eyes of another, and say “Hi”.
Maybe we mean to, but forget. But we need to actualize the need to see each other!
Join in? Please see people!

This is my wish that I send out into the world! CATCH!

Listen to your life.

"Listen to your life. See it for the fathomless mystery that it is. In the boredom and pain of it no less than in the excitement and gladness: touch, taste, smell your way to the holy and hidden heart of it because, in the last analysis, all moments are key moments, and life itself is grace."

Frederick Beuchner
