Five minute friday - On friends...

Five minute Friday: On friends …

When I was little my mum always found faults in everyone … She never stopped doing that. But I grew up with wise people doing their guest appearances in my life and I realized that she looked for faults in others to drown out her own feelings of not being good enough.
But I still haven’t been able to shake the feeling of my own lack of worth. The friends are few and the acquaintances are plenty … or am I just not understanding the word FRIEND?

Today is "Five minute friday".
"Write for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking..."
to "paint with words without worrying about staying inside the lines."

  1. Aww, I imagine that must be incredibly difficult. I think you understand the word "friend" right. It could be that it's just hard to let down your defenses because of past hurts. Perhaps in doing so, you would find a deeper relationship with your friends.

    Many prayers for you.

  2. What an honest response to the prompt. And I so understand what you are saying. Try to BE a friend to someone first. I have read that this is the best thing you can give yourself. Especially the acts of friendship that can never be repaid. Try? And good luck, friend ;)

  3. Your clarity is beautiful... We have so many opportunities to share life in positive ways and yet there are so many of us who choose to sit in our own shadows of doubt and fear. May what you have experienced with your mother allow you to choose to stand in the sunlight and shine even brighter.

  4. You understand the word friend correctly, I think. True friends are gifts hard to come by. Many appear to have lots of friends, but couldn't say they have any close friendships. Just be thankful for those few!
